Who Are We
Well…we’re cyclists. And while to the non-initiated that may not seem like much of a statement, we assert that it’s akin to surfing - it’s not just a hobby, it’s a way of life, sometimes nearly all-consuming. The kid at the counter in “Point Break” said that “surfin’s the source…it’ll change your life.” No offense to Katheryn Bigelow, but we like think it’s cycling.
We ride and wrench on all kinds of bikes, and we believe that riding will change anyone’s life for the better—that’s why we’ve dedicated ourselves to it. Not only that, we love the bike community: it’s full of quirky, unusual, unorthodox and often brilliant people. It takes a special sort of human to use a bike for transport or fun, and they’re all our tribe.
Some of us arrive at work on road bikes in spandex, some on an mtb, some, ahem, drive, while others have a gargantuan basket on the front of their klunker. But no matter what we’re riding, best believe we’ll let ‘er rip.

Chad French
Rhythm Bikes founder and life-long area resident Chad French had a vision to fulfill the area's need for a reliable, professional, and neighborly bike shop. Chad grew up in Montclair, riding the trails in Joaquin Miller Park and working for the local shops. Since then he has honed and developed his skills by joining top-tier organizations all over California, ranging from independent mom-and-pops to corporate behemoths like Trek super-stores. With this depth and breadth of experience in the cycling industry, he was well positioned for an opportunity to realize that vision, and in 2015 Rhythm Bikes opened its doors as the premier bike shop in the East Bay. He has always believed Montclair village is a focal point for the area's cycling community and is proud to support local riders who share his passion.
